3-Point Beer Review: STŘÍZLÍK Czech Pale Lager from Wren House
From Wren House: One of our favorite session beers returns, this time with a couple of improvements. Střízlík is a 10 degree Czech Style Pale Lager that uses premium Czech ingredients, like 100% Whole Cone Czech Saaz hops to create a simple yet beautifully flavorful and zippy, little beer. Střízlík begins as a a 10 degree Plato pale lager built up exclusively with 100% Floor Malted Bohemian Pilsner Malt that undergoes a decoction mash to bring out this malt’s full range of ba

3 Point Beer Review: Pedal Haus Oktoberfest Märzen
Pedal Haus, Tempe I struggle with Oktoberfest Märzen. I really want to like the American versions. Generally, I don't care for them. They seem to be too malty, too carmel forward, way too much Caramel & Munich malts. Overall I prefer the lighter Festbier, which can be just as malt forward (or even more) and elegant as the Märzen. For me there are a few Gold Standard European Märzen Beers: Hacker-Pschorr OktoberfestBier - Dry and snappy, delightful bitter finish Spaten Ok

3 Point Beer Review: Picketpost Pilsner
Wow, this one really was impressive. Had a massive head of foam that I could float a quarter on (thanks to a proper pour), very reminiscent of Slow Pour Pils by Bierstadt. Plus it was carbonated to a high level, making it quite refreshing. It was fun to watch the bubbles aggressively rise in the glass. The aroma matched the flavor - Saphir hops (floral, spicy, citrus) plus French Aramis hops (herbal, citrus, spicy). The overall experience was similar to Firestone Walker

3 Point Beer Review: Variation Exchange IPA by Catalyst Crafted
After hearing this beer won Phoenix Magazine's best West Coast IPA in Arizona, I needed to check this one out. I have to say, I was not disappointed! I would call it West Coast IPA 1.5 where the malt bill is super light and dry, allowing the hops to shine. I picked up Pine resin and grapefruit zest with a clean dry finish. Well Done!

3 Point Beer Review: Two Hands Dry Hopped Italian Pilsner from The Shop Beer Co, Tempe AZ
I'm still trying to learn the subtle differences between German Pilsner and Italian Pilsner. My understanding is the Italian version is generally dry hopped resulting in heavy hop aromatics and the German one is not as aromatic with a sharp clean bitterness. Most of the top examples of Italian Pilsner I've had (Firestone Walker Pivo Pils, Sierra Nevada PILS) use Saphir or Spalter Select hops. Some day I hope to get a fresh example of the grand-daddy of the style, Tipo Pils

New Beer Review: Wren House
Introducing The 3 Point Beer Review: I decided to go simple and basic with my beer review posts. I think the essence and intention of the beer by the brewer is likely enough to describe the basic overview of a beer. What do you think, is this a good way to review beers?? Spring Summer Seasonal Release
